Family Activities

Avaldsnes is full of traces from the past with many exciting cultural monuments.

Dress Up

At Nordvegen History Centre, we have various activities for children. Both the exhibition and the window hall are designed for exploration.

Dress up as a Viking in the window hall or wear costumes from the medieval period down in the exhibition itself. Exciting to step into a role to explore history.

Games and Fun

Learn to play Hnefatafl. The Vikings had several types of board games.  The game is about a Viking king who is attacked in his fortress. The king must, with the help of his men, make his way to one of the four corner squares. The attackers will try to defeat the king before he reaches a corner square. Challenge your family!

Ask for picture bingo. We have many different kinds, some that can be done indoors, one that can be used outdoors in Leikvollen, and one around Olav's Church.

Write your name in runes.  Ancient Norse texts tell us that the god Odin found the runes and gave them to humans. Therefore, people in the Viking Age believed that the runes were magical.

Draw a rock carving down in the exhibition.

Try the Viking Hunt. Find the answer to the puzzle while you explore the history at Avaldsnes. Start the hunt with Harald Fairhair in the window hall, continue outside around Olav's Church, and at the Viking Farm.
